Starskate Program (Junior)

STAR stands for Skills, Tests, Achievement, and Recognition. This program offers opportunities for skaters to develop basic figure skating skills in the four areas of Skating Skills, Freeskate, Dance and Interpretive Freeskate, with the option of taking Skate Canada Tests. Lessons are taught in a group and/or private lesson format in the four areas listed above.

Skaters may be taught in group or private lesson format and may choose to take tests, which are evaluated by Skate Canada evaluators. There are also many competition opportunities for STARSkate Program skaters. Skaters have an opportunity to achieve personal growth and development by participating in a high quality program that teaches the fundamentals of figure skating in a progressive and sequential manner Along with the standard skills, freeskate and dance lessons, The Fergus Skating Club offers a "Techniques" class which helps skaters to focus upon technique and agility in their skating. This is taught in a group format and is followed by a "Stroking" class which focuses upon strength and cardiovascular training on the ice while maintaining the importance of skill, style and technique.
